Testing Methodology & Compliance Guide
Rebound hammer testing estimates compressive strength by driving an elastic impact plunger against the concrete surface and measuring the rebound distance of the spring-controlled mass.
- Surface Preparation: Use the supplied carborundum grinding stone to eliminate surface carbonation, laitance, or rough coatings before striking.
- Impact Matrix: Execute 10 to 12 impact readings spaced at least 25 mm apart per test location as specified in IS 13311 (Part 2).
- Angle Correction: Digital models (like the RH225-B) automatically perform trigonometric impact angle corrections (horizontal, upward, or downward).
- Anvil Verification: The rebound hammer must produce readings within the certified tolerance (e.g. 80 ± 2 for Type N) on a verified steel testing anvil.
